The third version (Windows and Macintosh 1992) introduced video output of virtual slideshows to digital projectors, which would over time completely replace physical transparencies and slides. Microsoft powerpoint 2016 manufacturer product number windows#The first PowerPoint version (Macintosh 1987) was used to produce overhead transparencies, the second (Macintosh 1988, Windows 1990) could also produce color 35 mm slides. The impact of this much wider use of PowerPoint has been experienced as a powerful change throughout society, with strong reactions including advice that it should be used less, should be used differently, or should be used better. PowerPoint was originally designed to provide visuals for group presentations within business organizations, but has come to be very widely used in many other communication situations, both in business and beyond. : 402–404 Since the late 1990s, PowerPoint's worldwide market share of presentation software has been estimated at 95 percent. PowerPoint's market share was very small at first, prior to introducing a version for Microsoft Windows, but grew rapidly with the growth of Windows and of Office. Beginning with PowerPoint 4.0 (1994), PowerPoint was integrated into Microsoft Office development, and adopted shared common components and a converged user interface. PowerPoint became a component of the Microsoft Office suite, first offered in 1989 for Macintosh and in 1990 for Windows, which bundled several Microsoft apps. This was Microsoft's first significant acquisition, and Microsoft set up a new business unit for PowerPoint in Silicon Valley where Forethought had been located. Microsoft acquired PowerPoint for about $14 million three months after it appeared. It was released on April 20, 1987, initially for Macintosh computers only. Shortly after, Kory returns to Gar, making it clear she has no control of what is happening and is as scared as he is. ![]() This leads to another conversation with the random therapist, a plot thread that continues to slam the brakes and threatens the show’s entire pacing. It’s unclear if she’ll return, but it’s nice to see the show tighten up once again and focus on a leaner Titans team. Dawn, reflecting on Hank’s intentions to hang up the cape, decides to join her family in Paris and leave the team, for now. Reeling from the explosive death in the family, this week’s episode starts out by saying goodbye to another bird-related superhero. The following contains SPOILERS for DC’s Titans Season 3. In the comics, it is green while the show reveals it to be blue. After the shocking events of the third episode, Titans returns this week to begin to pop the lid on what is truly going on with Jason Todd’s cold-blooded turn as Red Hood. The only difference between the comic book Starfire and the show’s Starfire is the color of the energy Starfire produces from her body. Tamaraneans are known to manipulate ultraviolet energy in immeasurable ways, which even allows them to travel at near lightspeeds in deep space. This may mean Titans’ Starfire will have a more comic-accurate power-set. Kory claims her new powers after losing the power of fire in the show must have been there all along. She does absorb ultraviolet radiation but releases it in the form of green energy bolts. That ability solely belongs to her sister Blackfire. In the comic books, Starfire never does possess the power of fire. She even gains access to prophetic visions and can levitate. Even after losing her power of fire, Starfire still has her superhuman Tamaran physiology as well as the ability to generate bolts of blue light. She could even use it to create a defensive forcefield. The power of fire she previously had allowed her to absorb ultraviolet radiation and use it for energy blasts. Starfire’s Powers – How They Are Different In The Show Than In The Comics Starfire PowersĪs she is a Tamaranean, Starfire possesses a regenerative healing factor, super strength, and a host of energy manipulation abilities. When Starfire was healing Blackfire in Titans season 3 episode 10, the latter merely absorbed back the power that originally belonged to her. To ensure the Tamaran public never comes to know about this deception, he hired a soothsayer and transferred Blackfire’s power of fire into Starfire. And unlike Starfire, she did possess the power of fire. Blackfire – Titansīlackfire was the second-born. But her father, to appease the masses and save the royal bloodline, lied to his subjects. To become the ruler, one must possess the power of fire. There were many challengers to the throne. Starfire was born during a time of civil unrest in Tamaran. Starfire’s New Origin Story Starfire – The Retcon That Changes EverythingĪs revealed in season 3, the origin story of Starfire’s powers and her relationship and rivalry with Blackfire is a bit more complicated than we imagined. But then Kory reveals she has another set of powers that were unknown to the team. In Titans Season 3 Episode 10, Starfire loses all her powers when Blackfire absorbs them while being healed by her sister. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the early 1980s Finch met Courtney Love through Courtney’s then-boyfriend Jeff Mann. The Big 3 is a simplified framework for thinking about our lives. Let’s dig into what that means, starting with the first “Big 3”, then moving into the second. The main structure of the Carpe Diem Journal practice is called The Big 3 (x2). So if we wanna make the most of our lives, we need to make the most of TODAY! Our lives our made up of individual days. It was a key piece of inspiration for one of the first articles I ever wrote on Mindful Ambition. This quote has been guiding me for years. “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” In one of my favorite quotes of all time, Annie Dillard captures the essence of why seizing the day (carpe-ing the diem?) is so important. The phrase “carpe diem” literally translates to “pluck the day.” (Though many people go with “seize the day” as well.) It’s a morning journaling practice to help you make the most of every day. Recent Examples on the Web In this situation, the phrase carpe diem (seize the day) comes to mind.īob Macdonald, Forbes, 2 June 2022 The Detroit Red Wings have a carpe diem and carpe Devils approach to the final game of the season. Two centuries later, the phrase is found on mugs and T-shirts and in the names of various enterprises and organizations. While the sentiment has long been expressed in English, the phrase carpe diem didn't begin appearing in print in English until the early 19th century. One of the best-known examples (and an example featured prominently in Dead Poets Society) is in the first stanza of Robert Herrick's 1648 "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time": #Define carpe diem movieThe 1989 movie Dead Poets Society introduced late-20th-century audiences to the phrase, but the sentiment has been expressed in many literatures, perhaps most famously in 16th- and 17th-century English poetry. #Define carpe diem fullHis full injunction, "carpe diem quam minimum credula postero,” can be translated as “pluck the day, trusting as little as possible in the next one,” but carpe diem alone has come to be used as shorthand for this entire idea, which is more widely known as "seize the day." This Latin phrase, which literally means "pluck the day," was used by the Roman poet Horace to express the idea that we should enjoy life while we can. ![]() ![]() ![]() He realizes that at the end of his life, “somewhere ages and ages hence”, he will have regrets about having never gone back and traveling down the roads he did not take. Once again at the end of the poem the regret hangs over the traveler like a heavy cloud about to burst. Once you have performed an act or spoken a word that crystallizes who you are, there is no turning back, it cannot be undone. “I kept the first for another day!” The desire to travel down both paths is expressed and is not unusual, but “knowing how way leads on to way”, the speaker of this poem realizes that the decision is not just a temporary one and he “doubted if I should ever come back.” This is his common sense speaking and acknowledging that what he chooses now will affect every other choice he makes afterward. Perhaps Frost does this because each time a person comes to the point where they have to make a choice, it is new to them, somewhere they have never been and they tend to feel as though no one else had ever been there either. “And both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black.” The leaves had covered the ground and since the time they had fallen no one had yet to pass by on this road. The fact that the traveler took this path over the more popular, secure one indicates the type of personality he has, one that does not want to necessarily follow the crowd but do more of what has never been done, what is new and different. ![]() “Then took the other, just as fair, and having perhaps the better claim.” What made it have the better claim is that “it was grassy and wanted wear.” It was something that was obviously not for everyone because it seemed that the majority of people took the other path therefore he calls it “the road less travelled by”. It is the way that he chooses here that sets him off on his journey and decides where he is going. As much he may strain his eyes to see as far the road stretches, eventually it surpasses his vision and he can never see where it is going to lead. The road that will be chosen leads to the unknown, as does any choice in life. In an attempt to make a decision, the traveler “looks down one as far as I could”. ![]() There is a strong sense of regret before the choice is even made and it lies in the knowledge that in one lifetime, it is impossible to travel down every path. “And sorry I could not travel both…” It is always difficult to make a decision because it is impossible not to wonder about the opportunity cost, what will be missed out on. In any case however, this poem clearly demonstrates Frost’s belief that it is the road that one chooses that makes him the man who he is. It is one’s past, present and the attitude with which he looks upon his future that determines the shade of the light that he will see the poem in. Regardless of the original message that Robert Frost had intended to convey, his poem, “The Road Not Taken”, has left its readers with many different interpretations. There is never a straight path that leaves one with but a sole direction in which to head. “Do not follow where the path may lead… Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” -Robert Frost Everyone is a traveler, choosing the roads to follow on the map of their continuous journey, life. ![]() |
